Not a Nurse! - A Story of Identity

On Monday, I decided to appear at work in a white gown my friend had sewn for me since October 2020 which I had never worn. Feeling all ready to take the day, I launched out of my apartment.

Half way through my journey, I started hearing someone call at me -"my nurse, my nurse" you're guessing if I responded, right? Lol, I didn't. Ok, it's not what you think, I wasn't trying to snub the person. I didn't answer because I'm not a nurse! On arrival at work, armed with energy for productivity, I got busy with the day. Then my HOD passed a comment about my outfit, saying I looked like a nurse! Wahala for who wear white for hospital. 😂

I thought of this experience and the Holy Spirit drew my attention to something important which I'm about to share with you. It's a question of identity.

You see, they calling me a nurse didn't do me anything because I know who I am by profession, a certified Pharmacist, not a nurse!

There are times situations of life, society and people will try to give you a different identity, do you know who you really are?

There are many people who has accepted a wrong identity. Because you are used to being called that name, does not mean that's your true identity.

As a child in the kingdom of God, knowing your identity - "who you are" is a priority. When you find out who you really are, that is then you can begin to function as a real child of the kingdom. Identity determines function. This is how you reign!

Here, let me enlighten you a little, on who you are. You are:

1. A child of God:

The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. Romans 8:16 KJV.

Have you surrendered your life and confessed your sin to the Lord? Then you're a child of God. The Lord has forgiven you and brought you back into the Kingdom. Don't allow the enemy lie to you, don't let him keep you in that prison of guilt. He is God who blots out our sins and does not remember it. Check Isaiah 43:25. As long as you have sincerely repented of your sin, confessed and forsaken them. Receive the forgiveness of Christ. Hold on to the truth. This is your identity, you're a child of God.

2. Chosen, not forsaken: You're Chosen by the King of Kings. You matter to Him. He chose you to be with Him and live for Him. You're not only chosen, you're loved!

Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. Ephesians 1:4 NLT

3. A king:

And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1:6 KJV

Kings rule with authority. When you're totally under the authority of Christ through the Holy Spirit that is in you, You reign. You rule in your sphere of influence. You dominate! And through this, you reflect the nature of Christ. You're not meant to be dominated by your situation and negative circumstances. As king, you dominate.

4. A Royal priesthood:

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 1Peter 2:9 KJV

You're not just anyhow priest, you're royalty!!! In other words, you have been given capacity to talk to God on behalf of men. You have been given access to the sacred and holy things of God. What a privilege. Begin to function in your office as a royal priest.

5. Light and salt:

Ye are the salt of the earth... Ye are the light of the world... Matthew 5:13-14 KJV

You put darkness to flight wherever you find yourself, You bring sweetness to your world and you preserve godliness. It's true! That's exactly who you are. When you believe who you really are, you'll shift from defeat to perpetual victory.

Right, Do you believe in your identity in Christ?

If you believe it, do you live it?

As a child of God with kingdom identity, there's a way you comport your life.

  • Royalty cannot be found living indecently, that's an insult to your royal lineage.
  • A priest can not live a careless life, less you desecrate your sacred altar and the holy place becomes inaccessible to you.
  • The salt of the earth cannot be caught compromising with worldliness as this will dilute your potency as a salt and make you tasteless.
  • Light of the world! Why are you covering yourself up. Why did you allow iniquity cover you up. It's time to rise up from your prostration and frustration.

Rise up friend and live up to your identity.

Your identity dictates your function!!!
